Who speaks?
Which voice is telling the story? Is it truly one's own, or does an old expectation, judgment or fear speak through it?
For groups & educational settings
Workshops on voice, story, narrative perspective and the thread running through your own life.
Writing workshop
This workshop can be booked by schools, adult education centres, libraries, educational institutions, private groups or as a special gift, birthday format or inspiring afternoon for people of any age.
For many years, I taught young people creative writing and applied narratology, supporting them in finding their own voice. From this work grew a conviction: one of the most valuable abilities we can develop is to perceive which voice is currently telling and shaping our life.
Through guided writing impulses, participants are led toward their own voice, their own perspective and their own story. They learn to perceive from which inner instance they write, think and act, and can also make visible mistaken perspectives that have shaped their experience so far.
Practical narratology
Which voice is telling the story? Is it truly one's own, or does an old expectation, judgment or fear speak through it?
From which angle does a person's reality arise? What becomes visible through it, and what remains hidden?
Which narrative keeps itself in place? And what changes when another voice is allowed to speak?
Story workshop
Many people carry a story, a novel idea, a character or even an entire world inside them, but do not know how to begin or how to order the material. In this format, I accompany writers of any age in developing images, motifs and inner questions into a story that can hold.
We work on characters, world, conflict, perspective, voice and through-line. The point is not to write according to a formula, but to find out which story truly wants to be told and from which perspective it becomes alive.
As the author of the novel world EMBERLINE, I know the process by which inner images, characters and essential questions become a larger narrative world. As a literary scholar with a focus on narratology, I also teach the narrative tools that allow a story to carry.
Longer format
For free schools, online schools, worldschooling groups, writing groups and people of any age who want to work on their own story over several weeks.
Over the course of a semester, participants develop a longer text from an initial idea: a short story, a novel opening, an autobiographical narrative, a manifesto, a fantasy world or another personal writing project.
We work on idea, theme, characters, world, conflict, narrative perspective, voice, through-line, scenes and, if desired, a small final reading or presentation.
